Why Do We Get Headaches ?
Have you ever had a pounding head? Getting regular debilitating headaches is no fun, they can make it hard to think straight, and enjoy life.
There are many physical reasons that can make you susceptible to headaches, such as:-
- Cranial compression: Your head and face are made up of 22 individual bones! These bones fit together like a very complex 3D jigsaw puzzle. Small compressions between these cranial bones can have a very magnified affect on the central nervous system and cranial blood supply, often leading to frequent headaches.
Some migraine headaches also come with sensitivity to light or disturbances in vision. This is probably due to cranial pressure on the optic chasm within the brain, which is the processing centre for the eyes, and is located in the occipital lobe at the back of the head. The affects of the brain and nervous system being pressured, are agitation and hypersensitivity leading to symptoms of stress, fatigue, anxiety, exhaustion and depression.
- Blood and Cerebral Spinal Fluid (CSF) play crucial roles in supplying oxygen and nutrients to the brain, and removing waste products (eg drugs, hormones). Hormonal imbalances are a very common cause of monthly headaches. Any restrictions to the supply and drainage of blood and CSF through cranial compression can make us feel foggy in our thoughts and sometimes dizzy as well.
- Neck Tension. Our workplace posture, and repetitive actions (such as carrying children) are common causes of neck tension, which leads to blood and cerebral spinal fluid restrictions in the neck and head.
- Body Balance as a Whole A dodgy knee, hip or shoulder makes us constantly move in a way to avoid aggravating the area. However the effects of a slightly lopsided posture, causes a chain reaction all the way up the spine, which can lead to neck and cranial compression, again causing headaches.
- Sinus congestion. The common feeling of stuffiness, pain, and pressure around the face and eyes is very unpleasant. The knock on effect of inflamed sinus membranes and mucus build up, can cause cranial pressure and the associated sinus headache.
But there is light at the end of the tunnel….
Craniosacral Therapy is very effective at reducing cranial compression, sinus congestion, and muscular skeletal imbalances throughout the body, thereby addressing the true physical sources of a lot of persistent headaches, fatigue, and depression.
Don’t suffer unnecessarily; explore the possibility of a pain free body, and a clear and happy head.
